The treasurer’s report was distributed.
Executive Director’s Report: Karen was absent.
Merchant of the Month:
The Board voted on the following Merchant of the Month for July: Sprouts.
Retail Round Robin Recap:
Retail Round Robin was held on Tuesday, March 12, 6:00pm. The host stores were The Blue Purl, Sports Care Physical Therapy, Mind Over Movement, and Cambridge Street Papers. 18 were in attendance. Bonnie Cramer did a great news release in The Alternative Press.
Spring Membership Party Recap:
The Spring Membership Party was held on Thursday, March 21 at 6:30pm at The Bar at Plaza Lanes.
12 attended the event.
Easter Fun Fest Recap:
Easter Fun Fest was Saturday, March 23. 3000 candy & toy filled eggs were distributed. It was a well attended event. The day was chilly but sunny. Winners were choosen and all donations were claimed.
Senior Discount Days:
Senior Discount Days will be a focus for the Focus on Foot Traffic group. More details on relaunching this program will follow.
Facebook/Cross Promotion Update:
The Chamber website now has a page with business Facebook links. A list was also sent to the membership along with the cross promotion ideas.
Realogy:
Realogy will start its moving process April 12 with completion by May 9. 1000 Value Cards have been given to them for distribution among their 950 employees. The Chamber is looking to come up with other employee incentive offers to welcome them to Madison.
Bartender Showdown:
Bartender Showdown will be Thursday, May 2 at Poor Herbie’s beginning at 6pm. Karen D’Addario, Michael Odell and Dr. Sam Romano will be the guest bartenders. Posters will be distributed after the Taste of Madison.
Ladies Night Out:
Ladies Night Out is scheduled for May 9, 5:30-8:30pm. Registration will begin at 5:30pm at Doodlebugz, 55 Main Street (Wine & Cheese will be provided by Gary's Wine & Marketplace).
Names, addresses and email addresses will be collected. The form will have a box to check allowing the participants information to be shared with (1) Love Madison Shop Madison email list (2) Participating Ladies Night Out businesses.
The first 100 registrants will receive a "swag" bag with items donated by the local businesses.
Ladies will be encouraged to visit the participating businesses and collect raffle tickets as they browse through the downtown business district. The more raffle tickets they collect the more chances they will get to win 2 large gift baskets of items from Madison's businesses.
The drawing for the baskets will be held at 8:00pm. The raffle baskets will be displayed at registration.
New releases will be sent to all on-line & print newspapers and the event will receive press coverage the evening of the event.
All participants will receive a bundle of pink (2 shades) & lime balloons for their doors donating participation.
A banner advertising the event will be hung on the train trestle (Waverly side) from April 8-22.
Other marketing materials will be provided (IE: fliers, posters, a map including participating businesses etc). A full page color ad will be taken out in the Madison Eagle. 10,000 direct mail pieces will be sent. Fulton Bank will help sponsor the event.
There will be exposure for the event on our website, facebook, and the Love Madison Shop Madison newsletter.
June Sales Days/Farmers Market:
Chamber will not promote June Sales Days, however, the membership has expressed wanting to participate in Farmers Market. Executive council has approved this and businesses will be allowed to place tables outside on the sidewalk only during the Farmers Market event times.
Annual Awards Dinner:
The Annual Awards dinners is confirmed for Tuesday, June 11 at 6:30pm at Hamilton Park. Ticket price will be $50 per ticket to cover the increase in price per plate. Chamber Board voted on the business award winners:
Best New Sign: Cambridge Street Paper; Best Renovation: TJ Service Center; Best New Building: Walgreens; Best Revitilization: Lincoln Place Project; Best ReLaunch- Firehouse; Distinguished Service Award: Judy Mullins; Community Service Award: Investor’s Bank & Salvatore Minardi.
Baseball Event:
The Chamber will sponsor its second bus trip in to see the Yankees vs Minessota on Sunday, July 14. 45 tickets have been reserved. An email will be sent to the membership.
Jack Morris Memorial Scholarship Fund/Scholarship Committee:
The committee is Allison Adams, Karen D’Addario and Donna Bird. Scholarship was set at $3000.The Scholarship team has updated the essay for the scholarship application. The students have two choices of essay questions to answer A) How do they participate in the local chamber of commerce or B) How would they promote Madison.
Elections:
Ken appointed Danielle Dixon, Karen D’Addario & John Morris as members of the nominating committee. Board members up for re-election are: Sam DeAngelis, Arleen J. Gaetani, Frank Iannarone, Michael Odell, and Ken Toumey. Election information will be sent out mid April.
Value Card:
1000 Value Cards were given to Realogy to distribute to their 950 employees. Karen is reaching out to the value card participants to ask for an extention on their offers. The new value card will roll out in January. More information to follow.
Focus on Foot Traffic:
Next meeting Wednesday, April 17 at 8:30am at Rocco’s Bar & Grill. The April 3 meeting has been cancelled.

Madison Map:
The Chamber is working with Joe Renna on creating a full color map of Madison and its business district. The map will include advertising.
Taste of Madison:
The Taste of Madison is April 15 at The Park Avenue Club. Committee reports fewer restaurants to participate this year. Tickets are still available. A special group price is being offered... Buy 6 Tickets, Get 1 Free.
Business Networking Breakfast:
The April Networking breakfast is Tuesday, April 9, 8am at Charlie Brown’s. Patty Singer from Follow Me will be the guest speaker.
Other Business:
Fire Extinguisher Program will be held on June 11. More information to follow. Rotary Family Festival will be held June 15 & June 16 at Realogy.

Merchant of the Month:
The Board voted on the following Merchant of the Months: March/Hilltop Community Bank, May/Main Street Wine Cellars, July/Salvatore Minardi.

Karen created a packet to hand out/email to the membership with cross promotion ideas and facebook links to other chamber members.

Commitee met with guidance department at MHS. Application deadline is April 19. Interviews will take place around May 1. Committee is looking for essay to be more community oriented. The committee is Allison Adams, Karen D’Addario and Donna Bird. Scholarship was set at $3000.
Elections:

Day of Service Project:
Judy Mullins presented a Day of Service Project by the MHS art students. Students would donate their time and talents for 1 day, May 31 to help local businesses with advertising, creating promotional materials etc. Many questions were raised. Judy will get back to us with more information.

Michael Odell spoke on behalf of the Madison Scholarship Committee. They would like the Chamber Board to consider taking over the scholarship program. The scholarship is donor based and they sustain enough money through 2016. Board felt it was out of their range and did not follow in line with our mission.

Treasurer’s Report:
The treasurer’s report was distributed. Last round of invoices were sent this week in an attempt to collect on the car show, website advertising, print directory, restaurant week and the holiday window painting. A total of $3210. is still outstanding on these programs.
Executive Director’s Report:
Total membership reported is 161. 3 new members this month include: Stonington, Tips from Town (Jennifer Goetz) and Andrea LoMonaco (Wells Fargo, Summit).
Value Card:
Kate Lavino is working on a re-design on the Value Card to be presented at the next meeting. The Value Card will be more aligned with the Shop Madison marketing program.

Chamber Holiday Party:
The Chamber holiday party was Tuesday January 15, 6:30pm at Rocco’s Tuscany Grill. 83 people attended the event.
Merchant of the Month:
The Board voted on the following Merchant of the Months: March/Hilltop Community Bank, May/Main Street Wine Cellars, July/Salvatore Minardi. The Nautilus is the February Merchant of the Month.

Retail Round Robin:
The next Retail Round Robin will be held on Tuesday, March 12 beginning at 6:00pm. Our host stores will be The Blue Purl, Sports Care Physical Therapy, Madison Mane, and Cambridge Street Papers.
Seminar Schedule:
Our next speaker for the networking breakfast will be Ty Monk of Monks Home Improvements. Working on getting a Facebook specialist to speak and Ken will be speaking on credit/debit programs.
Cross Promotion:
Allison led a discussion on how members can help cross promote with each other. Rocky Romeo shared some concrete ideas/ways businesses can help each other. Karen will send an email to the membership and collect and share facebook links with members in an effort to increase the number of likes among businesses. We will discuss further in our Focus on Foot Traffic group.
Master List for Program Event Communications:
Carment DeRosa created a list of businesses/individuals that can be point places/people to contact for ease of making certain all marketing materials are distibuted during events. Karen working on finalizing the list and will distibute at the March meeting.
Bartender Showdown:
Waiting for confirmation on February 28 date at Poor Herbie’s.

Jack Morris Memorial Scholarship Fund/Scholarship Committee:
A commitee was appointed to contact the high school re: the scholarship, conduct interviews and report their selections to the board. The committee is Allison Adams, Karen D’Addario and Donna Bird. Ken and Marsha Ann will help as needed. Scholarship was set at $3000.
Elections:
A 3 member nominating committee will be appointed in March and elections will be held per the Chamber by-laws. Some of the Board members will be up for re-election.
Chamber Website:
An email was sent requesting testimonials to put up on the website. To date we have 11 testimonials. Ken requested “testimonials” to be put up on the site.
Business Networking Breakfast:
The February Networking breakfast is Tuesday, February 12, 8am at Charlie Brown’s. Ty Monk will be speaking.
Taste of Madison:
The Taste of Madison is scheduled for April 15. Committee reports 25-30 restaurants are on board this year. Special priced VIP tickets are on sale for Valentine’s Day.
Other Business:
To date the “Sandy” Fundraiser held at St. Vincent on January 26 has raised 26K.

The treasurer’s report was distributed. Invoices sent to collect on the car show, website advertising, print directory, restaurant week and the holiday window painting are slowly coming in.

Holiday Open House & Basket Raffle Recap:
The Holiday Open House & Basket Raffle was Thursday, December 6. 30+ baskets were donated by the local businesses. Baskets were set up at Coccia in the conference the day of the event. A sign was placed outside directing traffic into the raffle location. Stores distributed raffle tickets throughout the day and encouraged participation in the event. Advertising for the event included a banner on the train trestle, a full page color ad in the Madison Eagle, an ad on The Alternative Press, 1750 direct mail pieces sent to the Madison/Florham Park area and a news releases. Overall the event was very successful with the businesses showing all day traffic. Santa picked the winners at 6:30pm. All baskets were collected by the following week.
Outdoor Home Decorating Contest:
The Chamber sponsored the Outdoor Home Decorating Contest again this year. 13 themes were awarded by the judging team on December 19. Winners received a $25 Chamber gift check and a sign to be placed on their front lawns. The 2 grand prize winners received a $100 Chamber gift check and a sign for their front lawns. The Alternative Press did a feature story on a few of the winners.
Chamber Holiday Party:
The Chamber holiday party will be held Tuesday January 15, 6:30pm at Rocco’s Tuscany Grill. Cost will be $25 per person. The evening will include buffet, cash bar and door prizes.
Merchant of the Month:
The Chamber January Merchant of the Month is The Blue Purl. Chamber is to choose the next 3 month winners.
Senior Discount Days:
Senior Discount Days will be a focus for the Focus on Foot Traffic group. More details on relaunching this program will follow.
Retail Round Robin:
The next Retail Round Robin will be held on Tuesday, March 12 beginning at 6:30pm. Our host stores will be The Blue Purl, Cambridge Street Papers, Madison Mane, and Sports Care Physical Therapy.
Seminar Schedule:
Karen working on a solid schedule of seminar speakers. A schedule to follow.

Master List for Program Event Communications:
Carment DeRosa created a list of businesses/individuals that can be point places/people to contact for ease of making certain all marketing materials are distibuted during events. Karen working on finalizing the list and will distibute at the next meeting.
Super Bowl 2014 Programs:
Discussion on Super Bowl 2014 coming the Meadowlands. More discussion to follow.
Value Card 2012-2013 Update:
Arleen presented a stat sheet. She continues to lead the sales. Karen to work on relaunch and marketing for this program. More information to follow at February meeting.

Ken requested “testimonials” to be put up on the site. Discussed putting another website seminar on the calendar.

Treasurer’s Report:
The treasurer’s report was distributed. Invoices were sent to collect on the car show ($600 owed), Website Advertising ($240 owed), Print Directory ($2300. owed), Restaurant Week ($310 owed), Holiday Window Painting ($280 owed).
Executive Director’s Report:
Chamber Directory:
Karen discussed outstanding invoices sent. 500 of the printed membership directories were printed to hand out at the Christmas Parade. 2000 more to be printed. It was requested that the cover be redesigned.
Focus on Foot Traffic:
Next meeting Wednesday, December 5 at 8:30am at Rocco’s Bar & Grill.
Holiday Open House & Basket Raffle:
The Holiday Open House & Basket Raffle is scheduled for Thursday, December 6. 30+ baskets were donated by the local businesses. Baskets will be set up at Coccia in the conference the day of the event. A sign will be placed outside directing traffic into the raffle location. Stores will distribute raffle tickets throughout the day and encourage participation in the event. Businesses should pick up their balloons at the Madison Pharmacy after 9am on Thursday. Advertising for the event includes a banner up for 2 weeks on the train trestle, a full page color ad in the Madison Eagle, an ad on The Alternative Press, 1750 direct mail pieces and a news release.
Holiday Advertising:
The Chamber advertised its holiday programming through 1750 direct mail pieces sent to the Madison/Florham Park area. (2) 1/2 page ads in The Madison Eagle, ad on The Alternative Press, and new releases.
Outdoor Home Decorating Contest:
The Chamber will sponsor the Outdoor Home Decorating Contest again this year. 13 themes will be sponsored. Entry forms are available on the website and at The Provident Bank, The Madison Pharmacy, Sprouts and Somerset Hills Bank. Peter, Arleen, and Michael will help with judging the contest. Judging will take place on Wednesday, December 19 after 6pm. There will be no awards ceremony held this year. A news release was sent to our press contacts.
Chamber Holiday Party:

Merchant of the Month:
The DDC December Merchant of the Month is Madison Vacuum. Chamber is to choose the next 3 month winners.
Madison Restaurant Week:
Madison Restaurant Week 2012 was Sunday, October 21 through Sunday, October 28.
The following 11 restaurants participated: Takuma Japanese Restaurant, 42 Lincoln Pl.; Rob's Bistro, 75 Main St.; Il Mondo Vecchio, 72 Main St.; Chef Loryn's, 250 Main St.; David's Rumba Cafe, 6 Elmer St.; Nicky's Firehouse Family Restaurant, 15 Central Ave.; Rocco's Bar & Grill, 30 Cook Plaza; Empire Szechuan, 258 Main St.; Poor Herbie's, 13 Waverly Pl.; Bento Grill, 20 Waverly Pl.; and Garlic Rose Bistro, 41 Main St.
Karen sent an email to the restaurants asking for feedback. No one responded. Board discussed not continuing the program moving forward due to the restaurants lack of interest in the program.
Value Card 2012-2013 Update:
Arleen presented a stat sheet. She continues to lead the sales with 150 sold to date. Chamber handed out 350 value cards at the Christmas Parade again this year along with magnets promoting the new website.
Bottle Hill Day/Car Show:
Bottle Hill Day/Car Show was held Saturday, October 6. The event brought in approximately $2000 to be split with the PBA.
Christmas Parade/MACA Arts Festival Recap:
The parade and MACA event was Friday, November 23. The event brought over 10 thousand people to town. The weather was great. Businesses reported that the MACA event had people throughout the town all day. Lots of people walking around. Carmine requested $500 from the Chamber to be given to the Christmas Committee. Board approved. Carmine also reported that Santa’s village is having a very busy year. Santa has already given out 400 cookies, 400 candy canes, & 400 coloring books to the children.

Non Member Merchant Publicity: Board discussed recent 4 letters written to the editor by Blush owner. Letter have received negative comments by both community and other businesses and their owners. Chamber to submit at letter stating its view on shopping local.
